PREZ APOLOGIZES TO ASANTEHENE
President Nana Addo
Dankwa Akuffo-Addo has condemned the violent behaviour of Delta Force, a
political vigilante group in the Ashanti region, which members recently attacked and
forcibly ejected the Ashanti Regional Security Liaison Officer, George Adjei from his office.
President Akufo-Addo assured that even though
the unfortunate incident has already occurred, he is determined to
ensure that nothing of that nature reoccurs anywhere in the country.
He subsequently apologized to the Asantehene for any embarrassment caused him as a result of the rude behaviour of the group.
The
President gave the assurance at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi when he paid a
courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu.
President Nana Addo
Dankwa Akufo-Addo was at the Manhyia Palace at the start of his three-day
working visit to the Ashanti region.
This is the first official working tour of
the Ashanti region since becoming the President of Ghana.
The last time he was
in the region was when he had been declared the President-elect after the
December 2016 Presidential elections.
On his three-day regional tour are some
Ministers of State notably among them are the Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan
Kyeremateng, Minister for National Security, Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of
Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Minister of Aviation, Madam
Cecilia Dapaah and the Majority Leader in
Parliament and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensah
Bonsu.
The President is also accompanied by some National and Regional
Executives of the ruling NPP such as the Acting General Secretary, John Boadu
and the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako.
The entourage was
led to the Manhyia Palace by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah.
President
Akufo-Addo explained that his three-day visit is primarily to show appreciation
to the people of Ashanti for voting massively for him propelling the NPP to
victory after last year’s elections.
He emphasized his commitment to keeping to
all his campaign promises starting with implementation of the free senior high
school policy in September this year.
He assured the people
that his government is determined to keep to all his campaign promises to the
people of Ghana. In his remarks, the
Bantamahene, Baffuo Asare Owusu Amankwatia, enumerated some serious
socio-economic challenges drawing back progress of Kumasi and appealed to the President
to give attention to the resolution of those problems.
These include
infrastructural deficit leading to unbearable traffic congestion within the
metropolis while filth has engulfed the city posing a threat to the health of
the residents.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo
Osei Tutu, traced the long standing inter personal relationship with Nana Akufo-Addo
before he became the President.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu pledged his unflinching
support to President Akufo-Addo just as he did for all four Presidents who preceded
him but cautioned the President against people around him arguing that some of
them will only be singing his praises just to win his favour.
He expressed
regret that functionaries of the NDC government refused to heed to some of his
advice on the reality on the ground. This Otumfuo Osei Tutu, attributed to the
defeat of the party in the election.
The Asantehene Otumfuo
Osei Tutu used the opportunity to wish President Akufo-Addo a belated happy
birthday and wished him well.
