13 ESCAPEE DELTA FORCE MEMBERS SURRENDER

The Ashanti regional Police Command says all 13 accused persons who escaped from court yesterday have reported themselves to the Police and are in custody pending the second hearing of their case at the KMA Circuit Court where they are standing trial on the 20th of this month. 

Yesterday, Thu April 6 in Kumasi, 13 men believed to be members of Delta Force, a political vigilante group, who were being tried by the Court Presided over by Madam Mary Nsenkyire were allegedly aided by a mob of men linked to the vigilante group through the backdoor of the Court reserved for use by the Presiding Judge. 


This was after the Court had refused bail application by their Counsel and subsequently remanded all of them into prison custody till the 20th of this month for continuation of the hearing.

 A statement signed by the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCoP Ken Yeboah and issued to the media in Kumasi, noted that however denied speculations that the Judge was harmed during the melee at the Court adding that Madam Mary Nsenkyire is safe as she was under Police protection at the time of the incident.

 The statement assured residents of the Ashanti region of the commitment of the Service to continue to ensure law and order within the region and that no act of lawlessness shall be countenanced. 

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Regional Police Command, ASP Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, has told Ashanti Today that all the all the eight persons who have been arrested earlier for allegedly aiding the accused persons to escape from the court will soon be arraigned before Court and charged with different offences from those against the 13 accused persons already standing trial.
