NURSING STUDENT COMMITS SUICIDE AT MAMPONG

A first year female student of the Nursing and Midwifery Training School at Asante Mampong has allegedly committed suicide. 

The student, whose name has only been given as Alberta and is supposed to have started her practicals last Tuesday as part of the academic schedule of the school, is said to have mixed poison with her food last Wednesday evening and fell in excruciating pain while eating.

 A source at the school who spoke to Ashanti Today on condition of anonymity, said her mates at the Joint Hostel where she lodged who saw her condition then rushed her to the Asante Mampong Municipal Hospital which is nearby where she was admitted. 


The source said after sometime, Alberta was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital yesterday, Thu. April 20, where she was pronounced dead. 

The matter is expected to be reported to the Mampong Police for investigation to be conducted to unravel circumstances surrounding the alleged suicide.

Meanwhile premises of the Asante Mampong Nursing and Midwifery Training School remains very calm but both workers and students were seen standing in groups ostensibly discussing the unfortunate incident.

Alberta is said to have complained that she had been enrolled to pursue Health Assistants programme instead of the Diploma in General Nursing Course she applied for.

There is another rumour that she was among some students who involved in certain unpleasant socialization for which their parents were invited by the School's authorities to be informed about the conduct of the students.

Their pictures during the said socialization are also rumoured to have been posted on social media.

New Campus of the Kwamang Presby SHS The Kwamang Presby Senior High/Technical School in the Sekyere Central district of Ashanti needs an urgent external intervention to address some of its pressing basic needs to function very well.  A visit by Ashanti Today to the school’s premises revealed that the school does not have an administrative block to administer affairs of the school for which reason the Headmistress, the Bursar and another staff are sharing one room which has been partitioned, while the Assistant Headmaster, the rest of the Accounts staff among other administrative officers are also working from an improvised classroom.
