ACT TOO WADES IN

The Association of Catholic Teachers, ACT, has called on the leadership of the governing New Patriotic Party, NPP, to immediately meet with, and settle any promises that might have been made to members of Delta Force ahead of last December’s Presidential and Parliamentary elections so as to put to end their attacks.

Similarly, the state must deal decisively with any political party that could be encouraging activities of the group.

A statement jointly signed by the National Coordinator of ACT, William Boakye Baafi, and the National Coordinating Secretary, Frank Kuade Believer and issued to the media in Kumasi,  said operations of such groups are creating fear and panic among the citizenry, mostly students and teachers since one cannot anticipate when and where these lawless people could strike, more so when they were able to invade highly restricted areas such as the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council offices.

ACT observed with great worry that some political parties have developed the penchant for forming vigilante groups to help them during every election year during which period such groups perpetrate various acts of illegality including the killing and maiming of innocent citizens.

The statement noted with concern the undeniable fact that the activities of such groups cost the country huge sums of money by raising additional security personnel to maintain peace and order while reconstructing destroyed properties.

The statement reminded state security agencies and officials that this is the time the citizens are looking up to them for an assurance of their safety and security and should therefore not fail in their duties.
