GREATER KUMASI IN THE PIPELINE

Government is to create an Industrial Zone in each of the administrative regions of the country to serve as the avenue for the establishment of factories to drive the nation’s industrialization agenda.

In addition, the Kumasi metropolis will be developed into a Greater Kumasi to cover the adjoining districts such as Ejisu to be modeled around the Tema Industrial enclave.

This project is planned to make Kumasi one of Ghana’s industrial hubs to attract more internal and foreign investment in the building of industries for job creation.

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyeremateng, made this known in Kumasi during a media encounter.

Mr. Kyeremateng explained further that the Greater Kumasi industrial enclave will extend also to the Boankra Inland Port at Boankra where the first container port outside the sea ports in the country is being built.

The construction began about 11 years ago to easy the congestion at the Tema and Takoradi Ports.

Its completion will also spare the landlocked countries in West Africa the difficulties in going to the sea ports for business while prolonging the lifespan of Ghana’s roads.

Mr. Kyeremateng indicated also that through the Greater Kumasi project, rail lines will be extended to the proposed Inland Port to facilitate the movement of goods from the sea ports.

The Trade and Industry Minister noted that government will roll out many innovative programmes and projects to propel Ghana’s industrialization agenda and job creation and therefore urged the citizens to have patience for the government.
