DELTA FORCE '13' CASE ADJOURNED
The KMA Circuit court presided over by Mrs.
Mary Nsekyire has adjourned to the 18th of next month, the case involving
the 13 Delta Force who have been charged for allegedly attacking a public
office and causing unlawful damage.
The Judge appeared calm but with a stern facial
expressed.
All the 13 accused persons were presented to the Court this morning.
The Prosecutor of the case, ACP Okyere Darko who pleaded for the adjournment,
explained that the Attorney General has called for the docket of the case for further
study and the appropriate advice.
Counsel for the accused, Matthew Appiah, did
not object to the plea.
Later in an interview with the media, Lawyer Appiah expressed
optimism that his clients would be exonerated at the end of the trial since,
according to him, the police have no concrete
evidence that could cause the Court to convict them.
According to Our Reporter
at the Court today, the court premise was fortified with heavy security from
the regional police head quarters.
A
number of NPP members and sympathizers including the National Youth Organizer,
Sammy Awuku, were also at the Court premises in a show of solidarity with the
accused persons.
The 13 persons were
arrested by the Police in Kumasi following an invasion of a mob of persons
linked to the Delta Force, a political vigilante group, at the Ashanti Regional
Coordinating Council premises in Kumasi where they allegedly attacked the
Ashanti Regional Security Liaison Officer, George Adjei in protest of his
appointment contrary to their expectations.
On their first appearance at the
KMA Circuit Court on the 6th of this month or commencement of their
trial, another group of men also believed to be members of the vigilante group,
invaded the Court and allegedly aided the 13 accused persons to escape from
lawful custody after the Court, presided over by Mrs. Mary Nsenkyire remanded
them into prison custody.
The 13 men later submitted themselves to the Ashanti
Regional Police but their legal team went to the Kumasi High Court where the
accused were granted bail.
