HAJJ 2017 WILL BE OF A DIFFERENCE-I.C. QUAYE
Chairman of the National Hajj Board, Sheikh
Ibrahim Cudjoe Quaye, says this year’s Hajj Pilgrimage with be one of a marked
and positive difference relative all the previous trips.
He disclosed that
already, the government of Saudi Arabia has increased Ghana’s quota from over
five thousand in 2016 to six thousand 200 this year given room for more willing
and capable Muslims to undertake one of the important obligations of Islam.
Sheikh
I.C. Quaye made this known at Asawase in the Asokore Mampong Municipality in
the Ashanti region during a meeting of President Akufo-Addo and the leadership
of the Muslim and Zongo communities.
The meeting was an initiative of the
President to show appreciation to the two communities for their contribution
towards victory of the Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP in last December’s
elections.
Sheikh I.C. Quaye disclosed also that for the first time in the
history of the Hajj pilgrimage, government has budgeted to provide all the
pilgrims three meals a day free of charge during the period of their stay for
the Hajj.
He said despite the huge indebtedness of the National Hajj Board as
inherited from the previous government, plans are already in place to ensure
that this year’s Hajj becomes very successful.
