EIGHT 'DELTA FORCE MEMBERS' GRANTED BAIL

A Kumasi High Court has granted a 10 thousand Ghana Cedi bail each with two sureties to justify to all eight accused persons standing trial for allegedly causing a commotion at a Kumasi Circuit Court on the 6th of this month leading to the escape of members of Delta Force, a vigilante group, from lawful custody.

They are Ebenezer Opoku, Samuel Yeboah, Kofi Fosu and Christian Anokye.

The rest are Kwame Frempong, Abdul Suleman, Eric Opoku and Abass Caesar.

The eight were pursued and arrested by the Police at Fante New Town, a suburb of Kumasi.

A Circuit Court last Monday refused bail for the eight persons who were subsequently remanded in Prison custody to appear again on the 18th of this month.

They have been charged with the offence of resisting arrest and disturbing a court session.

At today’s hearing caused by the team of Defence lawyers, the High Court, presided over by Justice Francis Obiri, also directed the accused persons to present themselves to the Police before 3 pm of every Wednesday until the 18th of this month when they are to appear before the Circuit Court Two for the next adjourned date for the trial of the substantive case to continue.

The accused persons were brought to the Court under an enhanced security as the High Court complex was besieged by a fairly large crowd of close relations, sympathizers and some members of the public.

Later in an interview with the media, a member of the Defence Team, Lawyer Matthew Appiah, maintain their plea that the eight accused persons are innocent of the Circuit Court invasion and that they have been arrested based on mistaken identity.
