STOP ENDORSING POLITICIANS-NHC WARNS

The President of the National House of Chiefs, Naa Professor John Nabila has called on traditional rulers to desist from openly giving their backing to political parties or any candidate of a political party ahead of the December 7 elections.  He observed that of late, certain chiefs openly endorse candidates of one political party or the other.  Naa Prof. Nabila emphasized that it is not the position of the National House of Chiefs to endorse political parties.  He has therefore appealed to all chiefs to put an end to such endorsement.  Naa Prof. Nabila was addressing the second general meeting of the House in Kumasi.  He noted that as traditional rulers, it is the wish of Nananom that the forthcoming elections are conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.  Naa Prof. Nabila called on all Ghanaians to ensure that absolute peace is maintained before, during and after the elections.  He further called on the leadership of all political parties and their candida

NATIONAL ANTI-BUSHFIRES CAMPAIGN

The Ghana National Fire Service will very soon launch the National Anti Bushfire Campaign ahead of the dry season.  The Campaign is a proactive and preventive initiative of the GNFS to sensitize the public to the causes, dangers and preventive measures against wildfires, particularly bushfires.  This is expected to reduce the incidence of disasters associated with wildfires particularly in the dry season.  The Minister for the Interior, Prosper Bani, made this known in Kumasi when he paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, at the Manhyia Palace on the last of his two-day working tour of the Ashanti region.  The Minister for the Interior expressed satisfied with the security situation in the region as well as the preparedness of security arrangement being made towards a peaceful environment before, during and after the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections.  The Asantehene also expressed satisfaction with the general security situa

GOV'T. SPENDS GHC153M ON DEV'PT. PROJECTS IN ASHANTI-RM

Government has in the last four years spent over 153 million Ghana Cedis on a number of development projects to improve the education sector in the Ashanti region alone.  They include school blocks, dormitories for Senior High Schools, assembly halls, ICT and Science laboratories and staff residential facilities.  The Ashanti Regional Minister, John Alexander Ackon announced this at the 4 th edition of “Government for The People Forum”, in Kumasi.  He explained that the inauguration of two Community Day Senior High Schools in the Atwima Mponua and Ahafo Ano South districts indicates the commitment of Government towards improving access to particularly secondary education, adding that, four of such schools would soon be inaugurated.  Aside these, the Regional Minister noted that enough quantities of teaching materials including 43 thousand 500 boxes of chalk and 26 thousand 933 school uniforms had been distributed to basic school pupils in the region.  In the area of h

NADMO BILL AWAITS PRESIDENTIAL ASSENT-INTERIOR MINISTER

The National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO, bill has been passed by Parliament and is awaiting Assent by President John Mahama to eventually become a law.   The law will subsequently empower government to reposition the Organization and adequately resource it with logistics to become more proactive in the discharge of its mandate.  The Minister for the Interior, Prosper Bani, disclosed this in Kumasi at a meeting with Coordinators of NADMO in the Ashanti region as part of his two-day working visit to the region.  Before the meeting, the Interior Minister inspected the disaster readiness of the Ashanti Regional Emergency Operation Centre.  Mr. Bani admitted that the Organization has some operational challenges that negatively affect its optimal performance and that his ministry is working hard to address some of them, especially the provision of vehicles.  The staff can still do better with what is available to them. HUMAN TRAFFICKING NEGATIVELY AFFECTING GHANA'S IMAGE-INTERIOR MINISTER

The Minister for the Interior, Prosper Bani, has expressed serious concerns about current state of human trafficking across the borders of Ghana which he says is negatively affecting the image of the country.  According to him, the victims who are mostly females who are lured out of the country, are subjected to inhuman treatment.  As a means of effectively tackling the menace, the Interior Ministry has constituted an Inter Ministerial Committee that involves the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the appointment of a National Coordinator to properly coordinate all activities and programmes aimed at addressing the problem.  Mr. Bani expressed the concern while addressing senior police officers in the Ashanti region in Kumasi at the start of his two-day working visit to departments and agencies under his Ministry in the Ashanti region.  His first port of call was the Ashanti regional Police headquarters where a guard of honour was mounted for him.  Mr. Bani asked
