NATIONAL ANTI-BUSHFIRES CAMPAIGN
The
Ghana National Fire Service will very soon launch the National Anti Bushfire
Campaign ahead of the dry season.
The Campaign is a proactive and preventive
initiative of the GNFS to sensitize the public to the causes, dangers and
preventive measures against wildfires, particularly bushfires.
This is expected
to reduce the incidence of disasters associated with wildfires particularly in
the dry season.
The Minister for the Interior, Prosper Bani, made this known in
Kumasi when he paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, at
the Manhyia Palace on the last of his two-day working tour of the Ashanti
region.
The Minister for the Interior expressed satisfied with the security situation
in the region as well as the preparedness of security arrangement being made
towards a peaceful environment before, during and after the upcoming
Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The Asantehene also expressed
satisfaction with the general security situation in the region and commended
the security agencies, especially the Regional Police Command, for tackling
cases of crime that recently emerged in the region head on.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu
urged all the stakeholders of the elections to play their parts with fairness,
transparency and in good faith in dealing with one another to ensure that the
elections do not lead to insecurity.
He asked the Electoral Commission, in
particular, to open up to all interested individuals and organizations in its
activities in the run-up to the polls and even suggested for the inclusion of
certain key state institutions such as the Ghana Police Service to be part of
the Inter Party Advisory Committee, IPAC, engagements.
Such an initiative, he
noted, could even help in disseminating to the public actual decisions collectively
taken at such fora to stop the misinformation churned out by some of the
political parties after the IPAC meetings.
The Asantehene urged the Ministry of
the Interior to give equal attention to all the agencies under its jurisdiction
in the distribution of resources.
This, he explained, will enable them to
discharge their mandates optimally.
