KUMASI MUSLIMS MARK EID UL-FITR
Scores of orthodox Muslims in the Kumasi Metropolis observed Eid Ul-Fitr open air prayers at the Asawase Central Mosque with supplication to end the annual 30 day fasting.
It was led by the Ashanti
Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Abdul Mumin Haruna.
Sheikh Mumin Haruna urged the parents to invest
their resources in the education of their children particularly girl-child,
instead of concentrating on making unnecessary expenses on material things that
can derail the growth and future of their children.
He said children are the
legacy of parents, hence the need for much emphasis to bringing up their
children responsibly.
The Regional Chief Imam asked politicians, opinion leaders and media practitioners to eschew acts that can cause chaos in the country in the run up to this year's Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
Sheikh Mumin Haruna disclosed that he has had three bad dreams about incidences in the country in relation to the upcoming elections and has led the Muslim leaders to pray over it to avert it from coming into realities.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, John Alexander Ackon said
Ghana needs peace to enable the citizens to go about their legitimate
duties .
He appealed to Muslims to
continue to peacefully co-exist with all other people.
Mr. Ackon urged the Regional Chief Imam and all Muslim
leaders to embark on serious public education to ensure peaceful elections this year.
The Chief priest of the Asantehene, Bafuor Kogyawoasu, advised muslim parents and opinion leaders to imbibe in their children virtues such as respect for the elderly and humility.
They muslim youth must also shun politicians who would try to pushed them to commit crimes before and during the upcoming national elections.
In a related development, Ahmadiyya
Muslims held open air congregational prayers at the TI Ahmadiyya Senior High
School at Asafo Dadiesoaba in Kumasi.
The Ashanti Regional Missionary of
Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Maulvi Abdul Hamid Tahir said Islam is all about peace
among its adherents and all men.
He observed that national and social
development and cohesion is very much dependent on peace which he said is a shared
responsibility.
He called for a greater collaboration and partnership between
the Muslim and zongo communities and the security services to further enhance
the prevailing tranquility in the Ashanti region for speedy socio-economic
development.
Maulvi Abdul Hamid Tahir urged Ahmadis to practice the useful
lessons from the holy month of Ramadan including endurance, spiritual
fortification and tolerance for each other, while shunning those acts that
tarnish the image of the religion.
The government was represented by a delegation led by the Kumasi Mtropolitan Coordinating Director, Michael Ataogye who read the speech of the Ashanti Regional Minister, John Alexander Ackon.
