LET'S DO AWAY WITH POLICE CELLS-POLICE COMMISSIONER

COP James Oppong-Boanuh A Commissioner of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh, who is in charge of Services of the Ghana Police Service, says the face of policing the world over is fast changing.  This follows the new and more difficult crimes such as terrorism. According to the Commissioner of Police, new crimes such as terrorism pose serious threat to world peace with the operations of groups like Boko Haram in Ghana’s neighbourhood being a clear case.  He has suggested to the Police administration to adopt new methods of law enforcement and fighting crime saying that the traditional methods of operations are now more enough to deal with such threats.  Addressing a forum for police personnel and civilians in Kumasi, COP Oppong-Boanuh however noted that it does not mean the Ghana Police must discard its routine duties such as bank guards as well as   visibility patrols in the communities.  The new challenge, COP Oppong-Boanuh emphasized, should be operations of the Se

THREE DIE IN KOKODE FIRE OUTBREAK

The Ghana Fire Service insists that three persons died from last Sunday’s fire outbreak at Agric Kokode, a suburb of Kumasi.  Two siblings, Michael Owusu Yeboah, eight years old, and Raymond Owusu Yeboah, aged six, were burnt to death in one of the numerous wooden structures, while a 64-year old Godwin Attipoe, said to be owner of one the destroyed structures, died later at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.  The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Station Officer, D.O. Two, Agyei Fofie made this known to Ashanti Today , in Kumasi.  According to D.O. MAN FOUND IN ROOM THREE DAYS AFTER HIS DEATH

A man believed to be in his early 50s known as Alfred Owusu, was yesterday found dead in his room at Adoato Ship Mu, a suburb of Kumasi.  The man is suspected to have died about three days before he was found by the wife of his landlord, Madam Victoria Gyamera in a state of decomposition and producing unbearable stench.  The wife of the landlord told Ashanti Today that Mr. Owusu is believed to have died from an epileptic attack in the room where he lives alone, as he was a known epilepsy patient.  According to her, the body was found leaning against his bed with foam oozing from the mouth.  She noted that the man came to stay in the house about two years ago with occasional visits by his sister.     Madam Gyamera said early yesterday, she smelled a bad stench in the house and mistook it to be the result of a dead mouse.  However, after a thorough search in the house, she could not trace the stench to any dead rodent.  Madam Gyamera said she decided to

MANHYIA CHIEFS UNDERGO MEDICAL SCREENING

Some journalists also under went the screening The Ghana Association of Biomedical Laboratory Scientists has organized a free health screening exercise for chiefs and sub chiefs at the Manhyia Palace as well as other traditional leaders including queens from Kumasi, as part of activities to commemorate this year’s edition of the International Biomedical Scientists Day.  About 200 of the targeted traditional leaders patronized the exercise.  They were screened for their blood sugar and cholesterol levels and prostate cancer.  After going through the screening, the chiefs were also educated on the implication of their respected test results and advised on how to lead healthy lives or avoid complication in their conditions.  In an interview, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Association of Biomedical Laboratory Scientist, Dr. Michael Owusu explained that the exercise aimed also to create public awareness to go for regular medical checkups to update the
