WHO HOSTS NEXT AFCON?

The Confederation of African Football, CAF, will today decide which among the three countries yearning to host the next edition of the African Cup of Nations slated for January 2017. 

Algeria, Gabon or Ghana will be chosen as the hosts of the 2017 ACON finals. Original hosts Libya, where a civil war has halted football, withdrew last year from staging the tournament. 

The Confederation of African Football's executive committee will hold a vote at its annual congress in Cairo to decide their replacement.

 All three of the candidates to host the next finals have previously staged the tournament and each has sent ministerial delegations to deliver last-minute presentations to the committee before the vote. 

Gabon co-hosted the 2012 finals with neighbours Equatorial Guinea. Ghana hosted the finals in 1963, 1978 and 2008 and co-hosted in 2000 with Nigeria as late replacements when Zimbabwe was stripped of the right to hold the event. 

Algeria hosted the tournament in 1990 when they won their only continental title. CAF will also conduct the draw for the qualifiers, which will include Morocco and Tunisia, tomorrow.

THE STATE OF KUMASI'S 'INDUSTRIAL AREA

The once Industrial enclave of the Ashanti region within the Kumasi metropolis is fast losing its status as the nerve centre of jobs for the people.     This is due to the collapse of most of the companies in quick succession in  the last few years for various reasons. Background Industrialization was a key component of the first wholly indigenous government of Ghana led by Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. KWAMANG SHS NEEDS URGENT HELP

New Campus of the Kwamang Presby SHS The Kwamang Presby Senior High/Technical School in the Sekyere Central district of Ashanti needs an urgent external intervention to address some of its pressing basic needs to function very well.  A visit by Ashanti Today to the school’s premises revealed that the school does not have an administrative block to administer affairs of the school for which reason the Headmistress, the Bursar and another staff are sharing one room which has been partitioned, while the Assistant Headmaster, the rest of the Accounts staff among other administrative officers are also working from an improvised classroom.
