2ND NATIONAL EMERGENCY RESPONSE CENTRE OPENED IN ASHANTI

The Response Service Centre The 2 nd National Emergency Response Centre has been opened at Nkwantakesee in the Afigya Kwabre district of Ashanti to serve the Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions.  The Centre is an initiative of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication of the Ministry of Communications to serve as a one-stop call centre during emergency situations anywhere in the operational areas.  The National Emergency Response Service centre is a public project that seeks to create a common platform that allows people to make calls about any emergency situation for swift response.  The Centre’s main job is to receive distress calls from victims of emergency situations or concerned members of the public and in turn inform the relevant state agency to attend to such situations such as armed robbery attack, flooding, wildfires, road accidents, mob attack among others.  Concerned citizens can also report incidents of dangerous electrical problems th

KNUST GETS 500-BED TEACHING HOSPITAL

The KNUST Teaching Hosp. under construction The construction of a 500-bed Teaching Hospital for the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is now progressing steadily.  The first phase of the hospital is expected to be completed by the middle of next year. The facility is being jointly financed by the Ghana Education Trust Fund, GETFund and the KNUST from its internally generated revenue.  The initial estimate of the project which is six million Ghana Cedis is likely to be increased following project variations and delay in the completion period.  The Director of Works at the KNUST, Kwadwo Kyereme told Ashanti Today that completion of the hospital will help to increase the students intake at the University aside from helping to enhancing teaching and learning in the medicine and allied health programmes at the University.  Currently, the KNUST is using the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital as the teaching facility for medical students from th

ASAWASE NPP CRISIS: FIVE MURDER SUSPECTS REFUSED BAIL

A large number of sympathizers were at the court The Asokwa Magistrate Court in Kumasi today, Tuesday November 24, refused a bail application by Counsel for accused persons standing preliminary trial in connection with the murder of a member of the NPP in the Asawase Constituency, Sadiq Abubakar.  The Court therefore remanded three of the four accused persons into prison with the fourth one, Hajia Wasila Gariba, the Deputy Constituency Women Organizer of the NPP into Police custody.  Hajia Gariba is said to be an asthmatic patient who requires easy access to healthcare at all times.  The accused are to make their third appearance at the same court on the 7 th of next month. ASHANTI REGIONAL MINISTER, YAMOAH PONKO OTHERS LOSE IN NDC POLLS

Regional Minister lost at Tepa Obuasi MCE won Obuasi East slot        The Parliamentary primaries of the ruling NDC in the Ashanti region has produced some interesting results.  In the keenly contested Ahafo Ano North Constituency, the incumbent MP, Akwasi Adusei polled a total of three thousand, 646 of the valid votes cast to defeat his only challenger, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Peter Anarfi-Mensah who had three thousand and 11 votes.  At Nhyiaeso in Kumasi, the former Ashanti and Central Regional Minister, Dr. Samuel Sarpong made light work of his only contender, Yaw Afriyie Ntem.  Dr. Sarpong, now the Managing Director of the State Housing Company polled 759 of the votes as against the 356 votes garnered by Mr. Ntem.  The Deputy Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing, Samuel Yaw Adusei was re-elected as the Bantama Parliamentary candidate with a vote of 815, while the Ashanti Regional Youth Organi
