COLLEGE OF AGRIC TO INTRODUCE MORE COURSES-VICE CHANCELLOR
The University of Education Winneba is
introducing a Bachelor of Science Chemistry Education programme next academic
year to help produce more professional Chemistry teachers for the pre-tertiary
levels of education.
The University also plans to run a top-up programme in
Bachelor of Science Environmental Health and Sanitation Education in the
sandwich mode, for graduands of the Diploma in Environmental Health and
Sanitation Education and other qualified applicants next academic year.
Both
programmes will be offered at the College of Agriculture Education at Asante
Mampong.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Mawutor Avoke
announced this at the 20th congregation ceremony of the College of
Agriculture Education at Asante Mampong.
He said plans are also advanced for
the university to run a Master of Science in Agriculture by sandwich and
Bachelors degree programmes in Information and Communication Technology,
Natural Resources Management Education as well as Early Childhood Education.
Prof Avoke said all these programmes have been designed to contribute to
national development.
To ensure that teaching and non-teaching staff of the
university meet the best standards, opportunities have been given to some of
them to pursue further studies to enable them to earn terminal degrees.
The
Chairman of the University Council, Dr. Emmanuel Andoh announced that the
College of Agriculture Education has seen expansion in some of its facilities.
Among these are the library complex, the College clinic and two-storey lecture
halls. He acknowledged the tremendous assistance of the government and other
major stakeholders to the university and urged the graduands to contribute
their quota to the development of the country, as they go into the world of
work.
A total of one thousand 666 students graduated from the College of
Agriculture Education with Bachelors and Diploma certificates.
Out of the
number, 395 graduated with Bachelor of Science degrees in Agriculture,
Biological Science, Environmental Health and Sanitation and Integrated Science
Education.
George Addy was adjudged the best graduating male student, while
Zinabu Adama received the best graduating female student award.
They each
received 500 Ghana Cedis cash award.
