CHIEF COMMENDS GOV'T. FOR ASOKORE MAMPONG AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROJECT

Some of the yet-to-be completed blocks

The chief of Asokore Mampong in the Ashanti region, Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah, has commended the government for taking steps to complete the abandoned affordable housing project in that community.

The resumption of the project for its eventual completion, the chief noted, will not only ensure value for money spent by the state, but importantly, help to open up the municipality to the outside world in view of the attraction it will have for prospective tenants.

Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah was speaking at the official handing over of the project by the Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Dr. Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah over to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust, SSNIT at the project site.

He said he and his elders have been very worried and apprehensive about the state of the housing project following several unfulfilled re-assurances by succeeding Ministers in concerned Ministry.

Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah noted also that a completion of the project will also provide enough residential accommodation for public servants including police personnel who are working in the municipality.

He singled out Dr. Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah for keeping to his earlier assurance to ensure the completion of the project.

The Asokore Mampong Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Nurudeen Hamidan, said the project site, which has become a den of criminals, will now see a facelift that will also help to permanently flush out the social miscreants who have sought refuge in the uncompleted apartments.

The MCE also appealed to SSNIT to allocate some of the apartments to the Municipal Assembly to house some of its workers. The Director-General of SSNIT, Ernest Thompson, emphasized that the project will not only provide affordable residential apartments to people, but will also create jobs and provide some form of social security for the people.
