OMESS PERFORMING WELL DESPITE CHALLENGES

Headmaster of the Oppon Memorial Senior High School, OMESS, J. K. Baffoe, says in spite of the very challenging teaching and learning environment prevailing in the school, the stakeholders such as students, staff, community and old students can still be proud of what has been achieved so far.

According to him, OMESS, as the school is popularly called, has been performing creditably in the annual West Africa Senior Schools Certificate Examinations, WASSCE with many of the products gaining admission into some of the enviable tertiary educational institutions.

Speaking at a durbar at Kokofu in the Asante Bekwai Municipality, Mr. Baffoe said OMESS has recorded 89 per cent passes in from six to eight subjects in the last two successive years.

The school has as well been performing averagely in sporting activities at both the municipal and regional levels.

Similarly, discipline among the students has improved over the years due to certain measures put in place by the authorities.

The celebration was on the theme: “Improving Infrastructure for Quality Education; the Role of Stakeholders”.

The Headmaster commended the Parent-Teacher Association, old students association and the Students’ Representatives Council, for their respective significant contributions towards infrastructural development of the school.

Mr. Baffoe mentioned for instance, that the P.T.A. has over the years provided enormous projects such as the boys’ and girls’ dormitories, temporary dining hall, two staff bungalows, classrooms and a generation plant for the school.

The SRC on the other hand, has funded the provision of a mechanized borehole, extension of pipe borne water to the dormitories, a canteen and a photocopier to the school.

These projects, he noted, have helped to ease part of the challenges the school is facing.

Mr. Baffoe said OMESS still needs facilities including good internal road network, more classrooms, a befitting Assembly hall and workshops for vocational skills practicals.
