The Standard bearer of the New Patriotic
Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo has warned that the death of the 30 year
old supporter of the party, Abubakar Sadiq the 6th of
this month, should be the last of such violent and unfortunate incident in
Ghana’s democracy and intra-party misunderstanding.
According to him, the NPP
believes in the tenets of democracy for which reason disagreements should not
lead to such unfortunate occurrence.
Nana Akuffo Addo gave the warning when he visited
the family of the late Sadiq when he called on them at Saabo Zongo in the
Asawase Constituency in Kumasi today, exactly one week after the incident, to console them on the sudden demise
of the young man.
Nana Akuffo Addo noted that even though Sadiq’s death could
be one of the ways of Allah, it should as well be considered as his personal
sacrifice for the good of the party and the nation.
The NPP Standard bearer
appealed to the family and loved ones of the deceased not to retaliate the
circumstance of his demise.
Nana Akuffo Addo explained that he was not in Ghana
when the incident occurred on that Friday and when he returned, he had to help
to resolve the ongoing wrangling within the party, hence his inability to call
on the family earlier than now.
He disclosed that he will be outside Ghana when
the final funeral rite is performed for the late Sadiq on Sunday, the 22nd
of this month.
It was for this reason that he decided to call on the family to
express his deepest sympathy and also mourn with them on the sad occasion.
He
donated a cash of two thousand 500 Ghana Cedis to the father, also called
Abubakar Sadiq and the family.
Nana Akuffo Addo was accompanied by the 3rd
National Vice Chairman of the NPP, Frederick Freduah Anto, the National Women’s
Organizer, Afisa Otiko Djaba, the immediate past General Secretary of the
party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, the MP for Kwadaso, Dr. Akoto Afriyie among other
party faithful.
The father, Mr. Sadiq thanked Nana Akuffo Addo for the show of
solidarity in this time of the family’s bereavement.
He said death is
inevitable and could catch up with man at any point in time in any
circumstance.
