ASHANTI REGIONAL MINISTER, YAMOAH PONKO OTHERS LOSE IN NDC POLLS

The Parliamentary primaries of the ruling NDC in the Ashanti region has produced some interesting results.
In the keenly
contested Ahafo Ano North Constituency, the incumbent MP, Akwasi Adusei polled
a total of three thousand, 646 of the valid votes cast to defeat his only
challenger, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Peter Anarfi-Mensah who had three
thousand and 11 votes.
At Nhyiaeso in Kumasi, the former Ashanti and Central
Regional Minister, Dr. Samuel Sarpong made light work of his only contender,
Yaw Afriyie Ntem.
Dr. Sarpong, now the Managing Director of the State Housing
Company polled 759 of the votes as against the 356 votes garnered by Mr. Ntem.
The Deputy Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing, Samuel Yaw Adusei
was re-elected as the Bantama Parliamentary candidate with a vote of 815, while
the Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer of the NDC, Ernest Brogya Genfi emerged
victorious over Francis Dodovi with 685 votes to 626 votes to become the NDC’s
Parliamentary candidate for the Suame Constituency.
In the contest for the
Ejisu Constituency, Madam Gloria Huze had one thousand, 150 of the total valid
votes cast to defeat her two male challengers, Obeng Darko and former MCE,
Afrifah Yamoah Ponko.
At Ejura, the MCE, Alhaji Braimah Bawa polled five thousand,
460 votes to defeat two other contestants to become the new candidate of the
NDC for the Constituency in next year’s election.
The Bosomtwe District Chief
Executive, Madam Veronica Antwi Agyei polled one thousand, 347 of the valid
votes cast to beat her only challenger, Dickson Manu who had one thousand, 120
votes.
At Ahafo Ano South East, the DCE, Gabriel Barimah popularly known as
‘Tweaa DCE’ had one thousand and45 votes but eventually lost the contest to one
Chris Boadi Mensah who polled one thousand, 432 of the votes, while the third
candidate, Kwadwo Antwi got 487 votes.
The Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive,
Richard Ofori Agyemang also emerged the Parliamentary Candidate of the NDC for
the Obuasi East Constituency with a vote tally of one thousand, 173 as against
the 639 votes polled by his only contender, Hajia Rahenatu.
In the Asante Akyem
North Constituency, Madam Mary Awusi shrugged off the challenge by the former
DCE, Daniel Osei.
Madam Mary Awusi had three thousand, 288 of the votes, while the
former DCE could only manage 818 of the votes.
Meanwhile, personalities such as the Deputy Chief of Staff at the
Presidency, Jonny Osei Kofi in the Oforikrom Constituency and Mohammed Mubarak
Muntaka in the Asawase Constituency will represent their respective
constituencies after they went through the process unopposed.
