NATIONAL HOUSE OF CHIEFS COMMENDS GOV'T. AND GMA

The National House of Chiefs has commended the Government and the Ghana Medical Association for engaging each other in fruitful negotiations which has resulted in a Codified Conditions of Service for members of the Ghana Medical Association.

The President of the National House of Chiefs, Naa Professor John Nabila made the remark at the Second Ordinary General Meeting of the House in Kumasi during the week.

Naa Prof. Nabila described the intervention of the House during the strike by members of the Ghana Medical Association as timely and urged other labour unions to fully exploit all legal avenues to seek redress to their grievances rather than embarking on industrial actions.

Naa Prof. Nabila also expressed concern about the recent public pronouncements by some Chiefs on their political stance adding that, such acts contravene Article 276 of the 1992 Constitution which prohibits Chiefs from actively taking part in partisan politics.

The President of the House appealed to all Judicial Committees at the Traditional Councils and Regional Houses of Chiefs to expedite action on the hearing of some cases pending before them so as to ensure the peace and development of all affected traditional areas.

At the meeting was the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority who had been invited by the House upon a request to engage the Chiefs and solicit their inputs on the way forward of the National Health Insurance Scheme.

The Chiefs also made inputs for the Child, Family and Welfare and Justice Policies which the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection presented to it for their views at the last meeting of the House.
