ASHANTI POLICE BREAKTHROUGH IN CRIME WAR

The
Ashanti Regional Police Command has described as a major breakthrough, its
arrest of some of its wanted suspected criminals including Mohammed Abubakar
popularly known as Manam, 32 years old and believed to have played a key part
in several violent crimes in the Ashanti region.
The Police Command is as well
happy to have arrested another man affectionately called Babangida, suspected
to be the main financier of some of the hardened criminals in the region,
together with another man who is said to be the supplier of arms to some of the
criminals.
The Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, ACP Ampofo Duku made
this known to the media in Kumasi at a press briefing on Thursday.

According to
the Deputy Police Commander, it was Manam and his suspected accomplice, Abdul
Fatauo Issah, 24 years old, who led the Police to apprehend the other suspects
following their arrest early this month.
ACP Ampofo Duku explained that Manam
and Issah, at about 10.30 pm on the 3rd of this month, hired a Daewoo
Matrix taxi cab with registration number AS 6151-13, driven by one Agyenim
Boateng, from the Airport Roundabout to Duase.
The Deputy Police Commander said
on reaching a section of the road near Duase New Site, the two suspects ordered
the driver to stop and pulled a locally made double-barreled gun at him.
They
then took away a cash of 80 Ghana Cedis and made him to lie face down, after
which they blocked the road with the taxi.
ACP Ampofo Duku noted that in their
operations, the two suspects managed to rob passengers on another taxi cab and
an urvan bus which arrived at the scene of unspecified amount of money and 11
mobile phones.
ACP Ampofo Duku noted that Manam afterwards, used other suspects
to commit other armed robberies in the Kumasi metropolis.
Some of their victim
drivers who reported their ordeal to the airport Police led later identified
Manam caused his arrest who in turn led to the Police to arrest five of his
suspected accomplices.
They are now in police custody.
