DON'T TRANSFER DCOP KOFI BOAKYE-WTCH COMMITTEES
Nana Sebeh Bususmuru addressing the media |
The Ashanti Region Watch Committee has called
on the President, John Dramani Mahama and the Police Administration to ignore
calls by certain elements in the Ashanti region for the transfer of the Ashanti
Regional Police Commander, DCoP Nathan Kofi Boakye.
According to the Committee,
even though DCoP Kofi Boakye might have stepped on some toes in the performance
of his official duties, that should not be the motivation for anyone or group
to call for his removal, considering the significant positive impact his
leadership has brought to bear on peace and security in the Ashanti region
during the relatively short period he has been in the helm of affairs of the
Police Command.
Speaking in an interview with some journalists in Kumasi, the
Secretary of the Committee, Edwin Nana Sebeh Busumuru, recounted the various
achievements the Kofi Boakye-led Regional Police Command has made in the almost
one year of his stewardship.
Nana Busumuru said for instance, that since the
assumption of duty of Kofi Boakye, there has been a mark improvement in the level
of personal and professional discipline among the Police personnel culminating
in enhanced public trusts and confidence in the Service.
Similarly, the rate of
crime committed in the region, compared with the situation before DCoP Kofi
Boakye’s arrival, has reduced drastically such that some public known criminal
elements in the region have relocated not just from the region, but in
neighbouring West African countries.
Nana Busumuru said also that the increased
Police visibility all over the region, especially at night, their swift
response to distress calls, coupled with the closer collaboration with the
various Community Watch Committees in fighting crime, have resulted in the
creation of a peaceful environment for residents in the region to go about
their lawful duties, with relatively no fear of attack from criminals.
On
behalf of the Committee, Nana Busumuru appealed also to the Asantehene to also
show an interest in the continuous stay of DCoP Kofi Boakye as the Ashanti Regional
Police Commander to lead the Police to fight crime in the region.
