ASANTEHENE ADVISES GHANA POLICE SERVICE TO BE IMPARTIAL

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu has advised the Police Service against discrimination of political parties and their allied groups’ in the discharge of their duties especially during this electioneering year.

Rather, personnel of the Service must be fair and dutifully operate within the confines of the law without any fear or material and monetary inducement in order to maintain public trust and respect.

The Asantehene gave the advice at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, when the Inspector General of Police, Dr. John Kudalor called on him as part of a two-day tour of the Ashanti region.

He expressed worry at the recurring tension and highly uncivilized political atmosphere which has characterized Ghana’s General Elections since it chose the democratic path in 1992.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu therefore urged all actors in the electioneering process including the various political parties and their affiliate groups to always see the interest of the nation as supreme in their engagements to avert any possible social unrest.

He also congratulated Dr. John Kudalor for his appointment into office as the Inspector General of Police, while appealing to the public to support the Service with credible information to assist it to combat crime effectively.

The IGP, Dr. Kudalor explained that his tour was particularly to assess the readiness of the Ashanti Regional Police Command in terms of personnel and logistics ahead of the Presidential and Parliamentary polls later this year.

He noted that an increase of the constituencies from 26 thousand to 29 thousand across the country places a huge task on the Police Service to discharge its mandated duties creditably before, during and after the elections to the expectation of all stakeholders.

In this regard, the IGP appealed to the Asantehene and the Asanteman Council to complement the efforts of the Police service among other security agencies by scaling up peace advocacy.

The delegation of the IGP led by the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, COP Nathan Kofi Boakye had earlier paid an official visit to the Suame Divisional Police Command, to monitor the progress of work on public private partnership housing and office project for personnel and the Station Officer detailed there.
