GOV'T. SPENDS GHC153M ON DEV'PT. PROJECTS IN ASHANTI-RM




Government has in the last four years spent over 153 million Ghana Cedis on a number of development projects to improve the education sector in the Ashanti region alone. 

They include school blocks, dormitories for Senior High Schools, assembly halls, ICT and Science laboratories and staff residential facilities.

 The Ashanti Regional Minister, John Alexander Ackon announced this at the 4th edition of “Government for The People Forum”, in Kumasi. 

He explained that the inauguration of two Community Day Senior High Schools in the Atwima Mponua and Ahafo Ano South districts indicates the commitment of Government towards improving access to particularly secondary education, adding that, four of such schools would soon be inaugurated. 

Aside these, the Regional Minister noted that enough quantities of teaching materials including 43 thousand 500 boxes of chalk and 26 thousand 933 school uniforms had been distributed to basic school pupils in the region.

 In the area of health, Mr. Ackon said work on the 500-bed capacity Military Hospital at Afari in the Atwima Nwabiagya district, the Regional Hospital at Sawua in the Bosomtwe district and district hospitals at Kumawu and Adansi Fomena are progressing steadily, adding that when completed, the facilities would assist to minimize pressure on the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital which is also a major national referral facility.

 He further announced that over 11 million Ghana Cedis has so far been spent on economic projects including the construction of community markets at strategic locations to facilitate trading activities and transportation.

 On the Kejetia-Central Market Redevelopment Project, the Regional Minister emphasized that the entire project upon completion would enhance revenue generation through well-structured economic activities and as well make the Kumasi metropolis attractive for social and economic activities.
