PREZ EXPRESSES CONFIDENCE IN COUNCIL OF STATE
President Nana
Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo today, Sun, April 30, joined the
Paramount Chief of Asante Juaben, Nana Otuo Serebuor, at a special thanksgiving
church service in appreciation to God for the appointment of the Juabenhene as
a Member of the Council of State and also for his election to Chair the
Council.
In a remark, President Akufo-Addo expressed confidence in the
membership of the current Council of State to competently discharge their
Constitutional mandate in honesty and frankness in the interest of the state.
President Akufo-Addo was particularly satisfied with the choice of Nana Otuo
Serebuor as the Chairman considering his depth of experience having served two
terms of eight years as a Member of the Council during the previous NPP
government.
The Paramount
Chief of Juaben, Nana Otuo Serebour, was a two Member of Council of State
constituted by former President Kufuor during his term as President.
He has
also served on a number of Boards and Governing Councils of state institutions
including the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and the Kwame Nkrumah University
of Science and Technology.
It was based on his depth of experience and
knowledge that President Akufo-Addo appointed him to serve on the current
Council of State as one of the eleven appointees of the 25-member Council.
He
was elected unopposed as Chairman of the Council at their first meeting. Nana
Otuo Serebuor considers his appointment and subsequent election as the Chairman
of the Council a divine intervention for which reason, the Local
Council of Churches in collaboration with the Juaben Traditional Council
organized the Special Thanskgiving Church Service at Juaben in the Ejisu-Juaben
Municipality to show appreciation to God for the honour bestowed their leader,
Juaben and Asanteman in general.
At the Service were a host of Ministers of
State, MPs, some Members of the Council of State, chiefs and members of the
clergy with the local mass choir and the good old Winneba Youth Choir in
attendance to provide inspirational choral music to spice up the occasion.
In
his remarks, President Akufo-Addo expressed satisfaction with the caliber of
members and the composition of the Council of State who he described as very
capable of providing him the right advice and guidance on issues of concern to
government and the people.
President Akufo-Addo noted that he was elated to
know the election of Nana Out Serebuor as Chairman of the Council based on the
sterling qualities and experience he brings to the work of the Council.
In a sermon,
the Archbishop Emeritus of the Kumasi Diocese of the Catholic Church, Most
Reverend Peter Akwasi Sarpong, noted that the institution of Counselors has
been an age old practice even within the chieftaincy structure from the local
to the highest level.
What is most important is for the Members on the Council
of State to be candid, sincere with spiritual discernment to proffer the right
advice to the President.
Most Rev. Akwasi Sarpong extolled the leadership
qualities of Nana Otuo Serebuor that make him suitable for the Chairmanship
position.
The Chairman of
the Council of State, Nana Otuo Serebour, expressed gratitude to President
Akufo-Addo for appointing him to the Council, his colleague Councilors for
reposing trust and confidence in him to lead them while thanking God for the
favour and honour bestowed on him, his traditional area and Asanteman in
general.
The Juabenhene disclosed that his traditional Council has reserved a
parcel of land measuring one thousand, 300 acres in the traditional area for
government to designate as a Free Zone enclave where both local and foreign
investors can build their factories.
This is aimed at propelling the government’s
industrialization and jobs creation agenda for the country.
