President John Dramani Mahama today paid a suprise visit to the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters in Kumasi to see for himself, the dramatic transformation of the place within the last nine months.

At the Police headquarters, President Mahama inspected a Quarter Guard of Honour mounted in his honour after which he inspected the newly

constructed 200-seater Conference Hall at the headquarters before visiting the office of the Regional Police Commander.

The Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters has seen a drastic transformation to give it a semblance of a highly restricted security zone with all the offices now glazed.

Closed Circuit Cameras have also been installed and centralized in the Regional Commander's office to give him an idea of what goes on within the premises.

The transformation is a tacit evidence of an effective Public-Private Partnership resulting from an initiative of the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye.

President Mahama commended DCOP Kofi Boakye for the exemplary leadership he has brought to bear on policing in the region.

He also commended the support of the private sector in  transforming the police headquarters.

President Mahama described the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters as the most beautiful of all the regional police headquarters.

DCOP Kofi Boakye took over from DCOP Augustine Gyening as the Ashanti Regional Police Commander about 10 months ago.

He has since introduce drastic measures in place that have helped to instil professionalism and self confidence in the police personnel while public trust and confidence in the police service in the region has equally improve.

DCOP Kofi Boakye has begun efforts to upgrade the Police Clinic in Kumasi to a Police Hospital, a gesture which has already received tremendous public support.

The fight of crime has also been relentless for which reason a number of high profile suspected criminals operating in the region have been arrested.

The President was accompanied by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Samuel Sarpong and the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Kojo Bonsu.
