KWAW KESSE GRANTED GHC 80, 000 BAIL

The KMA Circuit Court trying ace Hiplife musician, Emmanuel Botwe, popularly called Kwaw Kesse, has eventually granted him bail, albeit for less than one week.

The bail application, which was filed by the legal team of the musician led by Nana Akwasi Boaitey, was not opposed by the Prosecutor, Superintendent Emmanuel Akunnor who had appraised himself with the contents of the medical report procured by Kwaw Kesse’s legal team.

When the bail application accompanied with a medical report from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi was brought to his attention, the presiding judge, William Boampong upheld the application based on the details of the report.

Under the criminal laws of Ghana, the presiding judge had the prerogative to grant the bail application on grounds of a genuine medical report. Kwaw Kesse was therefore granted an 80 thousand Ghana Cedi bail with one surety to justify.

He will still appear again before the court on Monday, 5th January, 2015, the original next adjourned date for the case to be heard.

Superintendent Akunnor told Ashanti Today that Kwaw Kesse had been on admission at the KATH since the 22nd of December, 2014 saying that he was even brought to the court direct from the hospital.

He was said to be suffering from a stomach-related ailment.

The bail application is the second by the legal counsel in an effort to secure from for Kwaw Kesse.

The first attempt hit the rock after the legal team failed to procure and provide a High Court with a medical report to authenticate claims that the musician was sick.

The bail granted him is therefore seen as a breather for Kwaw Kesse who has been accused of smoking a substance suspected to be Indian hemp, a banned narcotic substance in Ghana.

He was arrested by the police at +2 Wine Shop, a popular pub at Nhyiaeso in Kumasi on the 22nd of November, 2014 when he was allegedly smoking the banned substance.
