PROF. ADDEI INSTIGATES PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES AGAINST GOV'T.
Prof. Addei addressing the gathering |
According to him, it is indiscernible for government to grant newly established public universities such as the University of Allied Health Sciences as well as the University for Energy and Renewable Natural Resources autonomy while
certain private tertiary universities which have proven their worth have persistently been denied Presidential Charter.
Professor Addei therefore entreated staff and students of private universities to vote out the government if it continues to disregard them and their real contribution to the national development agenda.
The former GIMPA boss was
addressing the graduation ceremony of the Christian Service University College,
in Kumasi.
The ceremony served also as the climax of the 40th
anniversary of the school on the theme: “40 Years and Growing; Renewing Our
Identity”.
'As far as i know, those so called universities are just Departments and not universities so i don't understand why they should be granted university status while Central University College and other private University colleges have been refuse Presidential Charter', the former GIMPA boss fumed.
Professor Adei said Ghana now requires leaders of character,
competence and care for the people to speed up transformation of the country.
He expressed serious concern about sexual perversion, corruption and illusion
that are negatively affecting the social values of the state.
He therefore
charged the Christian Service University College to remain focused on their
vision, mission and motto, which is “To Know Christ Better and Make Him Better Known and to Make Him
better Known”, without compromising on the production of well prepared
graduates for the society.
A representative of the Vice Chancellor of the
University of Ghana, Reverend Professor Cephas Domenyo, assured the CSUC that
its application for a Presidential Charter is being given serious
consideration, adding that the University of Ghana will be very much satisfied
to wean off one of its affiliated schools.
A total of 514 students passed out
with Certificates in Communication Studies, Business Administration, Nursing,
Computer Science and Theology.
