GIVE GES FREE HAND TO MANAGE EDUCATION IN GH-ACT
The Kumasi Province of
the Association of Catholic Teachers, ACT, has observed that the passing year 2014
has been one of mixed fortunes for the teaching profession as it was full of
disappointments, challenges, opportunities and promotion.
It reminded teachers however that, a time when a new year beckons, it still behoves
all members of the profession to soberly reflect on the year and draw useful
lessons and inspirations from whatever happened and resolve to improve on their
overall contributions not just for Ghana, but importantly in the interest of
their students and pupils with the ultimate objective of making teaching one of
the most attractive professions in the country.
A statement jointly signed by
the Provincial Secretary, Coordinator and Chairman, Bismark Antwi Donkor, William
Boakye-Baafi and Eric Kyei, the Association of Catholic Teachers advised also
politicians to stop what is considers to be unnecessary interferences in the affairs
of the Ghana Education Service so as to enable authorities of the Service to
have the free hand to run education in the country, saying that such interferences
have become part of the major setbacks in the education service.
The statement
also called for a finalization of the educational partnership between the
government and religious bodies in the ensuing year to address the perennial misunderstanding
between directors of education and religious bodies regarding staff postings,
transfers, schools supervision and monitoring of teachers and schools.
Similarly, the statement entreated officials of the GES to always show respect
to staff of the service, particularly teachers since reciprocal respect is one
of the major sources of worker motivation towards the attainment of corporate
goals.
It assured students, government and religious authorities especially the
Catholic faithful of the commitment of the teachers to give off their best in
the coming year and that the Association of Catholic Teachers will work hand in
hand with all its stakeholders to provide the desired quality formal education
in catholic schools.
The statement also asked all students who will be writing
their final examination papers in 2015 to learn harder to guarantee them
success.
