USE CHRISTMAS TO DEVELOP POSITIVE ATTITUDE TO THE ENVIRONMENT-PARISH PRIEST
A former Vicar-General of the Kumasi Arch
Diocese of the Catholic church, Reverend Monsignor Douglas Peters, has
challenged Ghanaians, particularly Christians, to use this year’s celebration
of the birth of Christ to renew their mindset and attitude towards the
environment.
It is only a positive change towards the environment that issues
as the much talked about illegal mining popularly known as ‘galamsey’ and
illegal trees felling that have serious national security implications and
environmental destruction could be effectively addressed for the sake of
posterity.
Reverend Monsignor Peters, who is now the Priest in charge of the
Holy Trinity Parish at Sepe Timpom in Kumasi, gave the advice in an exhortation
at GBC’s Garden City Radio’s festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in Kumasi.
The
event was Garden City Radio management’s appreciation of how far God had
brought the station during the ending year.
It was used to tell the story of
the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah and the birth of Jesus Christ
in nine short Bible readings from Genesis, the prophetic books and the Gospels,
interspersed with the singing of Christmas carols, hymns and choral music by
the Atasemanso Methodist Church choir and the Basel Missionary Choral in Kumasi.
The Bible passages were read by both staff members and
invited dignitaries. Reverend Monsignor Peters advised also workers,
particularly those in the public sector, to be honest and develop good working
attitudes.
The MP for Asokwa, Madam Patricia Appiagyei told the people that
politics should not be seen as a game to polarize the society and undermine
national socio-economic development.
Rather, people must accept it as a means
for human and social development.
The Ashanti Regional Director of the GBC,
Samuel Kwatia, reminded the traditional and political leadership of Ashanti as
well as players in the business industry in the region that Garden City Radio
is a public asset and should be supported to succeed.
Mr. Kwatia invited
especially Nananom of Asanteman and the people to regularly visit the station
to know at firsthand the state of affairs so as to also identify the kind of
assistance to offer the management for the station to remain in operation.
The
Regional Director commended the staff of the station for their dedicated
service during the year despite the challenging working environment.
