PERFORMANCE OF STATE INSTITUTIONS KEY TO NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT-AZUIMAH

The Executive Secretary of the National Peace Council, Francis Azuimah has observed that the sustained development of Ghana’s peace and democracy can only be realized when various institutions of state creditably discharge their duties as mandated.

This, coupled with Ghanaians being tolerant, honest, patriotic and assiduous can chart a clear path for the country’s socio-economic advancement for the benefit of all and posterity.

Mr. Azuimah made these observations at a capacity building workshop for members of the Ashanti Regional Peace Council, in Kumasi.

The workshop is the first to be organised for the Regional Peace Council since its constitution a year ago.

Addressing the 13-member council, Mr. Azuimah explained, that conflicts mostly resulting from intolerance, religious and political differences and disregard for the rights of others, negatively affect national peace.

It is against this background Mr. Azuimah noted, that members of the regional Council have been sensitized to a wide range of issues on conflict, their causes and solutions capable of addressing the spectrum of issues that directly undermine the overall progress of the region.

The Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Peace Council, Professor Seth Asiamah said the training programme was long overdue.

He said since its constitution a year ago, the regional council had contributed to efforts at resolving a number of issues that had the potency to breed chaos with far reaching national security consequences.

Prof. Asiamah commended the Ashanti Region House of Chiefs and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu in particular for their unending support and advice to the regional peace council in the discharge of its mandated duties, while appealing to the media to support the work of the council and be circumspect in their reportage particularly on chieftaincy issues.
