POLICE SET UP TASK FORCE ON FIRE CRACKERS

The Ashanti Regional Police Command says there is a complete ban on the sale and use of fire crackers for security reasons.

It has therefore advised the general public particularly those who engage in their sale or use to comply accordingly.

A statement signed by the Deputy Regional Police Commander, ACP Ampofo Duku said a Task Force has been formed to visit the various market centres and search, seize and arrest anyone found selling or using fire crackers to serve as deterrent to others who would want to do same in the near future.

He said the reason for the ban is because some miscreants take advantage of the Christmas and New Year festivities and engage in various crimes.

It is also very difficult to distinguish between the sound of the fire crackers and that of live ammunition, which poses serious security challenge to the police.

ACP Ampofo Duku said the ban on the sale and use of fire crackers is of grave concern to the Police Command and therefore entreated the public to cooperate with the police in this regard.

He repeated the resolve of the Command to fight crime and ensure peace and security before, during and after the Christmas and New Year celebration.

Suspicious characters must also be reported immediately to the police for necessary action.

ACP Ampofo Duku further advised the public to remain vigilant in their work places, homes and wherever they find themselves in order not to fall prey to criminals.
