SECURITY AGENCIES MUST BE SMART-RM

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Peter Anarfi-Mensah has urged security agencies in the region to devise proactive, effective and efficient strategies to outsmart deviants who continually take advantage of festive occasions to cause insecurity and tension in the society.

The Ghana National Fire Service in particular, must take steps to reduce to the barest minimum, incidences of wildfires which become rampant during the dry season.

Addressing personnel of the Fire Service during his inspection tour of the Regional Headquarters at Kyirapatre in Kumasi, Mr. Anarfi-Mensah identified lawlessness as one major cause of domestic, bush and industrial fire outbreaks, while crimes such as pick-pocketing, armed robbery and car snatching increase during festive periods such as Christmas.

The Regional Minister noted that society and for that matter criminals are dynamic, for which the security apparatus must have in place better strategies and tactics to get ahead of the criminals, in order to be able to thwart their machinations.

Mr. Anarfi-Mensah asked the security operatives not to allow the challenging working environments to stop them from being efficient.

The Ashanti Regional Commander of the Fire Service, D.O One Paa Kwesi disclosed that his outfit is very much prepared to respond appropriately to all emergencies that may occur during the yuletide, saying that all the District Fire Officers in the region have already been trained take proactive rather than reactive measures against fire outbreaks that could occur in their respective jurisdictions.

The Regional Minister, who is also the Chairman of the Regional Security Council, has already paid similar working visits to the Headquarters of the Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ashanti Regional Police Command, all in Kumasi.

During all those visits, Mr. Anarfi-Mensah inspected operational facilities of the agencies and also interacted with the personnel to learn at first hand, their concerns so as to find ways to address such concerns.
