SUSPECTED CRIMINALS NABBED

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects for allegedly robbing a banker and students residing at Twumduase near KNUST in Kumasi. 

The suspects are Anthony Boateng, a plumber and Nana Yaw Owusu Banahene, a trader, while two others, Victor and Fuseini, believed to be connected to the alleged crimes are on the run.  

 The Manhyia Divisional Police Commander, ACP George Tweneboah told the media in Kumasi that the suspects allegedly attacked students at the Nana Adoma Hostel Annex at Twumduase at about 11:45 pm at a gun point on the 23rd of this month. They succeeded in robbing the students of one laptop, five mobile phones, a modem and one Tablet phone. 

ACP Tweneboah said the suspects then went on to attack a Bank Manager who was returning home and robbed him at the entrance of his house of a mobile phone, a wallet containing cash in the sum of 700 Ghana Cedis and the ignition key to a Hyundai private car with registration number GX 2064 W. 

The Commander said the following day, the suspects were identified by residents of the area where the operation took place and an alarm was raised, leading to the arrest of Anthony Boateng, while Nana Yaw Owusu Banahene and a mechanic were able to escape. 

ACP George Tweneboah said Boateng later led the Police to arrest Nana Yaw Owusu Banahene at Santasi where one Laptop, an Ipad, four mobile phones and cash in the sum of 304 Ghana Cedis being part of the items robbed from the victims were retrieved from the hideout. 

In their caution statements the suspects mentioned one Victor and Fuseni as their accomplices.

In a related development the Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested 23 more suspected criminals during a swoop conducted by the Manhyia Divisional Police at Sawaaba, Manhyia, KTI, Akwatia Line and Alabaa which are all suburbs of Kumasi. They were arrested last Sunday. 

The Manhyia Divisional Police Commander, ACP George Tweneboah told the media that whiles the 23 suspects were at the Police Station, two of them were identified by five people who claimed to have been robbed of some personal effects and money within the past week. 

The two suspects, Rashid Mohammed and Aminu Ahmed who are suffering from Hernia, are currently undergoing surgical operation at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi. 

ACP Tweneboah said the exercise will be sustained to rid those areas of criminals who are making the lives of the residents uncomfortable.
