MALARIA TOPS MOST REPORTED ILLNESSES IN SEKYERE SOUTH DISTRICT
Malaria took the first position among
the top 10 causes of admissions at health facilities in the Sekyere South
District of Ashanti with three thousand and 17 cases representing 59-point-two
per cent of the admissions.
Sepsis, hypertension, diarrhea, cataract and abortion
were also recorded among the top 10 causes of admissions in the district.
The
Acting District Director of Health, Madam Vesta Aryordyiah announced this at
the annual health performance review at Agona.
She said Malaria also recorded
the highest among the top five causes of death in health facilities in the
district last year, followed by anaemia, hypertension, pneumonia and sepsis.
Madam
Aryordyiah said total OPD cases that was due to malaria was 38 thousand 281.
The figure was however a drastic reduction over the 68 thousand 800 cases in
2013.
Health facilities in the district recorded a total of four thousand 665 cases
of hypertension among the number of OPD cases last year, while number of new
HIV cases diagnosed was 53.
Madam Aryordyiah said last year, still births
reduced skilled delivery increased while there was increased TB case detection.
She said for this year, the health directorate will intensify health promotion
activities to ensure safe motherhood protocol adherence.
