On the other hand, the Regional Fire Officer disclosed that while four human lives were lost through the wild fires in 2013, 11 people died through similar circumstances last year.

Mr. Arhin mentioned January as the month during which more wildfires are recorded, in view of the severity of the harmatan during that period.

According to him, even though industrial fires occur most, domestic fire outbreaks often claim more human lives due to their habitation by people most of the time.

Mr. Arhin urged members of the public to exercise maximum care in handling fire and also ensure that their electrical wiring systems are handled by competent professionals.

The Regional Fire Officer said at least 10 new fire outbreaks have already been recorded in the Ashanti region since the 1st of this month.

He appealed to the media to provide time and space for personnel of the Fire Service to educate the public on safe handling of fire so as to further bring down the number of wild fire cases this year.
