MORE MEN KILLED IN ACCIDENTS IN ASHANTI

Statistics from the Ashanti regional directorate of the Road Safety Commission shows a reduction in almost all the indicators of road crashes in the region last year as compared to figures recorded in 2013.

For instance, while a total of 280 persons were killed through road accidents in 2013 including 209 males, 250 human lives were lost through the same circumstances last year.

The statistics released to Ashanti Today shows also that the number of vehicles that got involved in road accidents reduced from the one thousand, 988 figure in 2013, to one thousand and 84 recorded last year.

Similarly, the while 262 pedestrians were knocked down in 2013, 233 pedestrians suffered vehicular knock downs last year.

From the two succeeding years, more men believed to be bread winners for their respective families are killed in road accidents in the region than females.

For instance, in 2013, 167 of the total 280 persons who died through road accidents were men while last year, 148 of the 250 dead victims were men.

The statistics therefore makes men highly vulnerable to road accidents than their women and children.

The statistics also show that the Ashanti Regional directorate of the Road Safety Commission is well on course to achieve its corporate goal to reduce the number of people killed through road accidents by 50 per cent by the year 2020, while stabilizing the number of persons who get seriously injured in similar circumstances by the end of this year.
