POLICE TARGET ABOBOYAA, MOTORBIKES IN KSI

The Manhyia Divisional Police Command in Kumasi in conjunction with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department today, Monday February 29,  impounded at least 21 motor tricycles popularly referred as Aboboyaa, 10 motorbikes and seven cars for various motor traffic offences.

The offences range from non-use of crash helmets, unlicensed tricycles to unregistered vehicles.

The Divisional Police Commander, ACP George Tweneboah told Ashanti Today that the exercise was organized within the Kumasi Zongo area, an area noted for motor traffic offences.

He said fatalities resulting from particularly motorbike accidents have been on the increase in the metropolis since the beginning of this year and of major concern has been the non-adherence to the use of crash helmets by the riders.

It is in this regard that the Manhyia Command has began an exercise to enforce road traffic regulations to reduce indiscipline on the streets of Kumasi especially by road users.

ACP Tweneboah said owners of the impounded tricycles, motorbikes and cars would be processed for court soon.
