NEWARK MAYOR VISITS KUMASI
The outgoing Ashanti Regional Minister, Peter Anarfi-Mensah says Ghana is ready to do business with any foreign individual or organizations ready to undertake genuine investment in the country.
According to him, government is very much determined to transform the economic base of the country by divesting the economy from being a raw materials-export and import driven one to a manufacturing-based economy.
Speaking during a meeting with the visiting Mayor of the Newark City of the United States of America, Ras Baraka, in Kumasi, Mr. Anarfi-Mensah emphasized also that in seeking a mutually beneficial relationship with investors, government will always prioritize technological transfer and transformation to speed up the national development.
The out-going Regional Minister observed that with time, the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, will take over from Tema as the industrial nerve-centre of Ghana as the face of the city will also transform very soon due to the number of the nature of development projects being built in Kumasi.
These include the Central Market and the Kejetia Terminal which are being used to modernize the city.
Earlier, the Mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka paid a similar courtesy call on the Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Kojo Bonsu at the offices of the KMA where the two Mayors conferred.
Mr. Kojo Bonsu explained that Mr. Baraka’s visit will facilitate the concretization of a sister-city relationship arrangement initiated some years back, but could not be completed.
In the sister-city relationship, the KMA Chief Executive noted, Kumasi will benefit from improved waste management practices, formal education and health.
On his part, Mr. Baraka explained that his visit is a follow up to one by the First Lady of Ghana, Mrs. Lordina Mahama about a year ago, saying that his visit will deepen the economic and political ties with Ghana.
Mr. Baraka has already visited the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly.
While in Kumasi, he will visit the Opoku Ware and Saint Louis Senior High School, the KNUST, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and the Centre for National Culture which are of interest in the sister cities relationship.
