MENINGITIS INFECTIONS STABILIZE IN ASHANTI

The Ashanti Regional Directorate of Health says infection of the various strains of the Meningitis disease in the region has stabilized.

There has not been any significant number of new cases recorded, while the number of lives lost to the disease remains six in the region since the last media briefing by the directorate a week ago.

Speaking to Ashanti Today in Kumasi, a Deputy Regional Director of Health in charge of Public Health, Dr. Kwasi Yeboah-Awudzi stressed also with satisfaction that public awareness creation about the nature, causes of infection, symptoms as well as the effects of the most common strain of the disease, Pneumococal Meningitis, is getting on very well.

This, Dr. Yeboah-Awudzi noted, encourages the people to report early to the available health care facilities on realizing suspected symptoms.

The Deputy Regional Health Director said also that the infection of the confirmed cases is sporadic, thereby giving no cause for alarm about an outbreak or epidemic.

Dr. Yeboah-Awudzi gave the assurance that all the health care facilities in the region are now on high alert and in readiness to promptly attend to any reported cases of the disease.

He urged members of the public to report quickly to hospital if they see any sign of the disease, saying that patients have a higher survival rate if they report for treatment early.
