THREE ARRESTED FOR VANDALISING POLICE STATION

The Police at Jamasi in the Sekyere South district of Ashanti have arrested three persons who were believed to be part of a mob that attacked and vandalized the Jamasi Police Station yesterday, Thursday February 18

The three suspects have been transferred to the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters where they are being held by the Police to assist in investigation.

Speaking to Ashanti Today in Kumasi, the Acting Asante Mampong Divisional Commander, Superintendent Bismark Agyapong explained that the three, all men, allegedly joined other irate residents of Jamasi at about 5 pm yesterday to demand that the Police release suspects who were being held by the Police in connection with the suspected murder of three women at Jamasi.

According to Superintendent Agyapong, when the Police refused to give in to the demand of the mob, they became annoyed and vandalized part of the Police Station.

He said the mob was able to cause damage to the Counter, the windscreens of two vehicles of the Police as well as that of the Sekyere District Chief Executive.

Superintendent Agyapong, who is the substantive Mampong District Commander, the mob was so rowdy that a reinforcement had to be called from the Regional Police Headquarters who helped the local Police to bring the situation under control at about 9pm.

He said some more members of the irate residents have been identified and will be arrested very soon.

In a related incident, Superintendent Agyapong has told Ashanti Today that the Inspector General of Police, John Kudalor, has dispatched a team of personnel from the Police and Professional Intelligence bureaus to the Asante Mampong Nursing and Midwifery Training College to gather more evidence about the shooting of a tutor of the College, Francis Gbeneh and his younger brother, Thadeus Gbeneh to death a week ago.

According to Superintendent Agyapong, the team conducted enough interview with relevant persons as part of the evidence gathering.

They have since left for Accra and a final report and a decision on the matter is expected in due course.

He said the four Policemen involved in the shooting have returned from the Regional Headquarters but are on standby.

Their fate will depend on the findings and report of the team from PPIS.

On Wednesday, the 10th of this month, some Police personnel who were detailed to the campus of the Mampong Nursing and Midwifery Training College following a reported armed robbery attack on the residents, allegedly mistook a tutor of the College and his brother for the armed robbers and shot them dead.
