NEW MEDIA GROUP POPS UP IN KSI

A new media group known as ‘The Press Foundation’ has been formed and scheduled for official inauguration on Friday, the 12th of this month in Kumasi.

The Press Foundation, which was officially registered with the Registrar General’s Department in October last year and already boasts of about 200 members from across the country, has projected to increase its membership to 500 immediately after the launch at the Golden Tulip Hotel Kumasi City.

Speaking to Ashanti Today in Kumasi, the Communications Director of the Foundation, Frank Aboagye Jackson refuted speculations that The Press Foundation has been formed to rival the Ghana Journalists Association, GJA.

Mr. Aboagye noted that even though the former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the GJA, Listowel Yesu Bukarson, is one of the brains behind the formation of the Foundation, the idea was mooted long before he had a problem with the Regional Executives of the Association.

The Communications Director disclosed that some of the members of the Foundation are already members of the GJA and that it is not formulating any new Code of Ethics for media practitioners as it will still apply the existing one by the GJA.

Mr. Aboagye said the Foundation exists mainly to champion the general welfare of media practitioners in general and also help to stamp out the prevailing excesses within the media landscape.

He noted that media practitioners have been badly treated for far too long by both media owners and event organizers.

Mr. Aboagye disclosed that some important dignitaries have confirmed their participation in the official launch.

Among them are the High Commissioners for The Netherlands, U.S. and United Kingdom, outgoing Ashanti Regional Minister as well as Asantehene’s   Manwerehene.
