GHANA TO MARK WORLD SAFE INTERNET DAY
Facebook Incorporated is to team up with Ghana
Internet Safety Foundation, GISF, and others to commemorate this year’s World
Safe Internet Day in Kumasi in the Ashanti region.
About 850 students are
expected to participate in the celebration dubbed, “Play Your Part for a Better
Internet”.
The Safe Internet Day is a global celebration marked in the second
week of every February to promote safer and more responsible use of online
technology and mobile devices, especially among children and young people.
The
event will also be used to create awareness on online safety issues and rights.
This year’s theme of the celebration is to encourage people to play their part
in making the most of the positive opportunities offered online while giving
skills, knowledge and support they need to identify and manage online risks.
The national Safe Internet Day will involve a quiz and Spelling Bee competition
among four selected schools from Kumasi, awareness creation on internet, in
addition to the distribution of educational resources provided by Facebook to
the participating students.
