ASHANTI REGSEC MEETS TAFO CHIEF, VISITS GROUND

The Ashanti Regional Security Council, REGSEC, has re-affirmed its decision yesterday to impose a curfew on the Tafo township in the Kumasi metropolis following a violent eruption that plagued the town.

The curfew will now remain in force until further notice when the security situation in the town completely returns to normalcy.

The latest REGSEC decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the Council at the Ashanti Regional Coordination Council today, Thursday February 11.

It was to review the violent clashes and strategize for the days ahead.

The REGSEC meeting was attended by a representative of the Inspector General of Police, John Kudalor.

From the meeting, the members had a closed door meeting with the chief of Tafo, Nana Agyen Frimpong at his Palace.

Our sources at the meeting says the REGSEC members led by their Chairman, Peter Anarfi-Mensah who is the outgoing Ashanti Regional Minister, urged Nana Agyen Frimpong to impress upon his subjects to stop any plans of retaliation.

They also assured him of continued security protection till the situation normalizes.

The chief also asked the REGSEC to keep a keen eye on the Zongo communities to deal effectively with the violence in those areas.

He told the REGSEC that he had not sold any portion of the cemetery to any private developer and therefore challenged anyone with evidence to prove the claim.

He also asked the media to refrain from spreading falsehood that he has sold the disputed land.

Nana Agyen Frimpong told the REGSEC that the Asantehene has traveled and that he will be informed of the situation on his return.

They later visited the grounds to learn at first hand, the situation a day after the incident.

Meanwhile, there is still heavy security presence in the Tafo township to ensure that nothing untoward recur.
