INFLUENNCE DEBATE ON VOTERS REGISTER-ASANTEHENE URGES GBA

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu has urged the Ghana Bar Association to contribute to the national debate on a new national voter’s register and also suggest legal ideas towards electoral reforms in order to ensure credible and free and fair general elections in 2016.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu made the call at the ongoing national conference of the Ghana Bar Association in Kumasi.

According to him, the response to calls for reforms in the country’s electoral system by the Supreme Court Judges who sat on the 2012 election petition has been slow, a situation Otumfuo Osei Tutu described as worrying, considering the limited time for the country to go to the polls next year.

He has therefore tasked the legal body to assist the Electoral Commission in discharging its duties in this direction, especially now that it has one of its own, Mrs. Charlotte Osei as EC Chair.
