ASPIRANT DISRUPTS LOCAL ELECTIONS

An aspirant vying for the Assembly member for North Patasi Electoral Area position in Kumasi, Nana Kwaku Manu has been arrested by the police in Kumasi for destroying election materials at the KCC Polling station at North Patasi.

The Presiding Officer at the Polling Station, Mr. Amankwah told GBC’s Garden City Radio that at the start of voting at the KCC Polling Station, Nana Kwaku Manu’s agent drew his attention to the fact that the name of his aspirant had been wrongly spelt.

Instead of Nana Kwaku Manu, his name was spelt Nana Kwame Manu on the ballot papers.

Mr. Amankwah said he immediately convened a meeting with all the polling agents and it was agreed that votes that accrued to the name Nana Kwame Manu will be counted in the favour of Nana Kwaku Manu.

He said however that around 11.30 am, the aspirant, Nana Kwaku Manu stormed the polling station, apparently in anger with the wrong spelling of his name.

He then proceeded to destroy the ballot papers, broke open a ballot box and began chewing some of the papers in his mouth.

Mr. Amankwah said a police personnel stationed at the polling station managed to overpower him and handed over to a mobile security force that was patrolling the area.
