ASHANTI NDC ASPIRANTS UNDERGO SCREENING TOMORROW

The National Democratic Congress has scheduled
the vetting in the Parliamentary primaries in the Ashanti region for tomorrow
and Wednesday at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council in Kumasi.
Ninety-seven
members of the party who completed and filed their nomination documents in their
quest to contest in the party’s November 7 nation-wide primaries are facing stiff contest.
Some of the
aspirants are going unopposed.
The aspirants who are from more than 40
Constituencies in the region, have been grouped into seven batches with the
vetting of aspirants in each batch slated to last for two hours.
A statement
signed by the Regional Secretary of the Party, Raymond Tannor and issued to the
media said the first batch to go through the vetting will involve aspirants
from the Offinso North, Ejura, Ahafo Ano North, Afigya Kwabre North, Ahafo Ano
South West and South East and will last from 9am to 11 am.
Vetting in the
Ashanti region was postponed for one week for an unknown reason.
The statement
asked all the aspirants to attend the vetting with their party membership
cards, certified letter from their Branch Secretary and Chairman, three copies
of the Curriculum Vitae and any other document considered relevant to the
screening process.
It asked all the Regional Executives, Constituency Chairmen,
Secretaries, Organizers, Youth Organizers and Women Organizers to take part in
the vetting. Meanwhile, all the four NDC incumbent MPs in the Ashanti region
are being contested.
They are the MPs for Sekyere Afram Plains, Ahafo Ano North
and New Edubiase. The party lost the Ejura Constituency in the 2012
Parliamentary elections.
The aspiring MPs to be vetted include the Ashanti
Regional Minister, Peter Anarfi-Mensah who is contesting the for the Ahafo Ano
North Constituency, the Managing Director of the State Housing Company, Dr.
Samuel Sarpong at Nhyiaeso, Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing, Dr. Kwaku Agyemang Manu at
Atwima Mponua, Deputy Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing, Samuel
Yaw Edusei at Bantama as well as Deputy Minister for Gender, Children and
Social Protection, Alexander Ackon for Obuasi West.
The Deputy Chief of Staff,
Jonny Osei Kofi is contesting unopposed at Oforikrom in Kumasi.
