FINANCE MINISTER IS DISHONEST-CATHOLIC PRIEST

Rev. Monsignor Douglas Peters
The Priest in charge of the Holy Trinity Parish of the Catholic Church in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of Ashanti, Reverend Monsignor Douglas Peters, has observed that the money market the world over thrives on speculations.

According to the Reverend Minister, the explanation by the Minister of Finance, Seth Terkper that speculation is the cause of the continual downfall of the local currency against its major trading counterparts is inconclusive and highly doubtful.

Speaking to his congregation at Sepe Tinpom, Rev. Monsignor Peters, who is also a former Vicar General of the Kumasi Catholic Arch Diocese, asked the Finance Minister to restrategize in the management of the economy if the country’s borrowing has been influenced by the notion that the bad state of the local economy is as a result of the market speculation.

He stated "your explanation that speculation is the cause of the continual downfall of the Cedi is inconclusive and highly doubtful."

He warned that the economy will grind to a halt if steps are not taken to freeze the excessive borrowing. Reverend Monsignor Peters reminded also the citizenry that even though they have their rights and freedoms, these go together with responsibilities. Similarly, they should not pretend to be ignorant about the things happening around them just because they sometimes get some favours from the powers that be. People must therefore behave responsibly in the interest of the larger society.
