FAKE FERTILIZER DEALER CONVICTED
The Fomena
District Magistrate Court in the Adansi North district of Ashanti has fined a 30-year old man an amount of 800 Ghana Cedis for dealing in fake brand of liquid fertilizer and selling same to cocoa farmers.
The man, one Asamoah who
is himself a farmer, was arrested by the Police after one of his victim
customers who became suspicious of the genuineness of the Agyenkwa Liquid
Fertilizer alerted them of the suspected fake farm input.
Speaking to the
media, the Fomena Police District Commander, DSP Obeng Asubonteng explained
that the convict will serve two months in Prison if he is unable to pay the 800
Ghana Cedi fine.
DSP Asubonteng said the convict was arrested on the 31st
of last month at Hwereso, a farming community in the Adansi North district
after the tip-off.
Upon a search in his residence, the Police retrieved 17 gallons
of the fake fertilizer, while the man pleaded guilty to dealing in fake product,
after which he was convicted on his own plea by the Magistrate Court.
The Court
then authorized the Police to destroy the fake chemicals.
