ASANTEHENE WARNS SABBOTEURS

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu has cautioned kingmakers in the various traditional areas under Asanteman to follow approved processes and involve all stakeholders in the selection and enstoolment of chiefs in order to bring social harmony.

He said he would not countenance any breach of disrespect to traditional laws, customs and processes by any person aspiring to be a chief, to tarnish the hard earned honour and dignity of the Asante Kingdom.

According to Otumfuo Osei Tutu, the Chieftaincy Act duly recognizes the position of the Asantehene and therefore nothing should be done to tarnish his image or bring him into disrepute.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu was addressing a grand durbar at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to mark the 80tth anniversary celebration of the restoration of the Asante Confederacy, which falls on the 31st of January. He said Asantes are bound together by the Golden Stool as their soul.

As such he will do his utmost best to maintain and strengthen the unity and socio-politco-economic development of the kingdom as his predecessors have done.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu noted that the impact of the restoration of Asante Confederacy is huge and beneficial to Asanteman and the entire country with regard to social, political, economic, education, health and cultural development.

The Asantehene emphasized that he does not dabble in partisan politics, but will always lend support to the government of the day for the speedy development of the country.

Dignitaries present at the durbar included former President John Agyekum Kufour, Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Samuel Sarpong and Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Kojo Bonsu.
